There aren't many names that are iconic as Gary Numan and the 'Are Friends Electric?' legend makes his first appearance at Halifax Piece Hall.
Numan himself had excitingly awaited this show and so had his fans, Someone so iconic but also displays such a vibrant and magical performance at what I believe is to be the most stunning venue in the country.
We had the joys of an incredibly strong 18 song set in which we had songs from albums 'The Pleasure Principle' all the way up to his latest release in 'Intruder'
There may not have been many words spoken between songs, but when you've got the aura around you that Numan has, not much needs to be said as him and his band control the stage and make their own interactions with fans as they stand on the speakers in front and move to the far edges of the stage interacting as they play.
Seeing Gary Numan isn't the same as seeing other artists, you of course get the new and old fans, you get the die hards but this just, felt different. You could see the fans would follow in his every step. Tears were shed, cheers were shouted at the tops of lungs and you could see pure love in fans eyes as they gazed upon the singer.
But you could also see, behind the stage persona of Gary Numan, just how incredible that moment of being on that stage was to him. Catching a cheeky smile every now and again behind the microphone, or the serious demeanour on his face.
He is iconic, he is an inspiration to thousands in the goth scene and he is a man who pioneered an incredible genre of music.
I hope this isn't the last time we see Gary Numan at The Piece Hall, I always believe certain bands fit certain aesthetics and this is a perfect match.
