Summer is back which means one thing. The return of outdoor shows and the return of beautiful venues such as Halifax Piece Hall, Scarborough Open Air, Lincoln Castle and Blackweir.
We were fortunate enough to be invited up to Halifax to catch the incredible and iconic Pendulum as they made their debut appearance at The Piece Hall.
The sun was shining on the historic venue and the crowd who had all turned up early to catch the support act which was Swedish post-hardcore rock band Normandie.
I had never heard these guys before but I certainly (along with many others) enjoyed what was coming from the stage, The band were full of energy as they bounced around the stage and interacted with the fans down the front.
The crowd were definitely vibing with the music as it was non-stop dancing and jumping and an occasional moshpit during their 45 minute set. It was also great to see the band come out into the crowd after their set and stand amongst the other fans of Pendulum, which you don't tend to get too often at shows any more.
As the sun started to go down, the bright lights of the stage struck the venue and on walked Pendulum who opened their set with "Napalm" a song that instantly gets the crowd into the mood for the rest of the show and has everyone bouncing. "Propane Nightmares" had fans in front of me arm in arm singing at the top of their lungs word for word and that was just the beginning.
Pendulum are known for their production and their live quality and this was no different. This is a band whose production fit the venue perfectly.
With a mix of older classics and some brand new songs (Including their latest single "Cannibal" excluding Wargasm) we were definitely treated with a strong set curated incredibly by the band and performed to near perfection.
As the night started coming to its close, we were treated with the likes of "The Island" "archangel" and finishing up on the absolute classic that is "Tarantula"
From a crowd and fan perspective the show was incredible and I'm sure from the bands point of view it was just as great as the fans did not stop from the moment they walked on stage. Fans of all ages from kids as young as 5 up to 60+ were locked into the night and showed their love throughout.
A band with a 20 year career they're still keeping everything fresh and exciting and can still hold a large crowd in the palm of their hand.
