Rick Astley brought mass amounts of energy to what was a celebration of timeless pop music delivered in one of England's most spectacular concert settings. With the medieval castle walls providing a dramatic backdrop and a warm summer evening adding to the atmosphere, the event attracted fans spanning several generations. From the opening moments, there was a genuine sense of anticipation that only grew as the evening unfolded.
But before we could get to the main event, The Lottery Winners entered the stage, whose infectious energy and charismatic stage presence proved the perfect way to warm the crowd. Their blend of indie-pop anthems, witty banter and obvious enjoyment of performing quickly won over the audience. The band's energy and crowd interaction created an upbeat atmosphere that ensured the audience was fully warmed up before Astley took to the stage.
Rick Astley demonstrated exactly why he remains one of Britain's most enduring live performers. His rich vocals sounded as strong as ever, while his relaxed humour and natural rapport with the crowd made the performance feel both intimate and celebratory despite the large audience
The night started with 'Lights Out' which had the crowd dancing and singing along almost instantly showing that decades on, Rick Astley still remains one of Britain's most loved musicians.
Every mention of the 80's was treated to an eruption of cheers and Astley’s charm and wit shone through between songs with crowd interactions and stories from his career which led to a joke how he became a big deal by the end of the 80's.
There was a great mix of songs spanning his career back from the beginning with 'Together Forever' and the infamous 'Never Gonna Give You Up' all the way up to his later releases in 'Dippin My Feet' and 'Never Gonna Stop'. We even got treated to a couple of covers as he performed Raye's 'Where is my Husband' and Roy Orbison's 'Oh, Pretty Woman'
Overall, Astley's show was a thoroughly entertaining night filled with nostalgia but lots of love and fun, supported by a band that will forever deliver on exciting performances.
