Snow Patrol blow the roof off the Connexin Live in "Cardiff"
Wednesday night saw the Northern-Irish lads play to a sold out Hull Connexin Live, in which they showcased that they have so much more in their bag than a couple of greatest hits.
The night started strong with Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt. A very peaceful indie/folk vibe was a great way to start off a night like this. The back and forth she had with the fans was fun and light-hearted. Asking people about their relationships or if they were on dates as well as encouraging others to sing along to her catchy songs.
As her set came to a close, she spoke of growing up with Snow Patrol and thanking them for such an amazing opportunity to join them on tour. Showing that this band are generational and many of us that were there that night, also had the same experience of having them be around from a young age.
Now time for Snow Patrol, the production was a thing of pure beauty. Large screens displaying ever changing and beautiful images and animation, as well as close up shots of Gary, Nathan and Johnny.
Opening the night with "Take Back The City" immediately had the fans bouncing and singing along in full volume.
The night was curated incredibly well with hits spanning their 30 year career, many of which came from "Eyes Open" and their latest release "The Forest is the Path"
As the flow of the night keeps moving forward we get to one of the bands biggest hits "Run" which is met by a loud choir of voices singing along while Gary watches on from the stage.
Credit where credit is also due, we were informed Johnny had trapped his hand before tour and required surgery and like a true champion, powered through and didn't miss a single show. The love and dedication was definitely appreciated amongst the crowd who gave him a huge cheer.
As stated earlier, the production for this show was on another level and we were treated with 3D looking affects, falling leaves, beautiful animations on the back of the stage and so much more.
Late into the set, Gary took a moment to thank the fans for the love and support and apologised because they were about to play a song live for the first time and they were not sure how it would go down (Spoiler alert, we all loved it)
Having earlier noticed a sign in the crowd asking if a fan could play "Chasing Cars" the time came, and up came Ash, acoustic in hand front and centre of the stage and immediately slotted into the band. During this incredible moment, Gary referred to the Hull crowd as "Cardiff". A mishap that has never happened in their 3 decade career. I guess one in however many shows is a decent record to have!
The night came to a close with "Just Say Yes" and as I walked away from the night it made me realise just how great this band are and also just how long they've been a part of my life. I may not have listened to them consistently over the last 15/16 years of listening to them. But they're always a band I'll enjoy when their music plays.
